In The Walking Dead comics, he's gay. Fans get this confirmation in episode 14 of season seven, "The Other Side," when Jesus talks with Maggie at Hilltop.

Hilltop Colony member Jesus (Tom Payne) revealed he was gay during a conversation with Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in one of the episode's more tender moments.
